AI dramas are taking over ReelShort's new releases. We checked 80 titles.

By GASP editors · October 2, 2026

If a short drama on ReelShort looks a little too smooth lately, you are not imagining it. On October 2, 2026 we pulled every title from eight of ReelShort’s public shelves: Top, New Release, Hidden Identity, Second Chance, Love at First Sight, Pregnancy & Babies, Reel Original and Young Love. That gave us 80 dramas. ReelShort marks each title as AI-generated or not on its own pages, so we didn’t have to guess.

The short version: 55 of the 80 titles are AI dramas. Among titles released since July 2026, it’s 53 out of 60. Every title on the Top shelf is still live-action.

Two things stand out.

New releases are now mostly AI. On the New Release shelf, 9 of 12 titles are AI. On Hidden Identity it’s 11 of 12, and on Second Chance 10 of 12. The Top and Reel Original shelves have no AI titles at all.

AI dramas are shorter, but you get about the same free run. The typical AI drama has 50 episodes against 64 for live-action. Free episodes are almost identical, 9 against 10, so a larger share of an AI drama is free before the paywall.

The view gap is real but misleading. Live-action titles have had years to collect views; most AI titles are a few weeks old. One AI drama already proves the format can win: The Great and Powerful Genie, released July 14, 2026, has 539 million views. That’s more than any live-action title in our sample, including Married at First Sight (354 million since 2023).

The most-watched AI dramas right now

  1. The Great and Powerful Genie: 539 million views, 51 episodes
  2. Abandoned Pawn, Unrivaled Dragon King: 129 million views, 43 episodes
  3. Wasteland Sovereign: 42 million views, 67 episodes
  4. Step Back! That Homeless Man Is Not to be Messed With: 41 million views, 54 episodes
  5. The Triplets’ Final Regret: 41 million views, 51 episodes

How to tell if a drama is AI before you pay

  • Check the cast list. None of the 55 AI titles in our sample lists a cast. 18 of the 25 live-action titles credit real actors.
  • Watch the hands and background extras in the free episodes. Crowds that barely move are the giveaway.
  • Look at the release date. In our sample, a ReelShort drama released after July 2026 is very likely AI.

Should you pay for AI dramas?

Judge the story, not the production method. AI dramas tend toward fantasy and “underdog reveals hidden power” plots, which suit the format. Romance that depends on chemistry between two actors still works better live-action. Every drama page on GASP shows our score and what it costs to finish, so you can decide before the paywall.

Method: titles collected from ReelShort’s public web pages on October 2, 2026. Episode counts, free episodes, AI labels, release dates and view counts are taken from each title’s page. Our sample covers eight shelves, not ReelShort’s full catalog. We’ll repeat this count every month.
